Virusland 2020
Virusland 2020 describes a year of pandemic and the emergence of a new form of life, which transforms our habits, our gestures, our bodies, our faces.
On television, the President declares war on an invisible enemy. City centers are empty, stray dogs chase chattering drones: Stay home, they shout, do not go outside. Scientists study the path of particles emitted by sneezing. Preachers exorcize the virus and send it back to hell. In airports, the few passengers wear filtering helmets and blue plastic suits. Sports competitions take place on Zoom. Epidemiologists invade TV shows, while conspiracy theories rewind and re-edit the film of reality.
We have been caught up by lockdown in an disused seaside resort. We watch the images that circulate on social media. We keep a chronicle. Virusland's viruses are both biological and informational. They have reconfigured our relationships to each other and our relationship to our own body. They have touched the mental sphere as well and shifted what we consider normal and abnormal, moral and immoral.
Virusland 2020 is a polymorphic project : a film, a series of sixteen episodes, as the months of a year that is too long, and a performance with the two authors both on stage and on Zoom.
